Anderson Hill

Adelaide Hills Winery

Established in 1994 by Brian Anderson and his son Ben, Anderson Hill sits on 35 acres of prime land in Lenswood, South Australia with 20 acres of vineyards in the heart of the Adelaide Hills wine region, renowned for its premium cool climate wines.

Lenswood is a sub-region of the Adelaide Hills wine region from where some of Australia’s most famous wine brands source grapes including Penfold, Henschke, Nepenthe and Shaw + Smith.

Our Vineyard

With an altitude at 1942 feet above sea level, our vineyard is one of the coolest and highest in South Australia. The vineyard is sited on a north-easterly aspect in sandy loam over clay. Our grapes grow and ripen over cool summer days and chilly nights producing pure fruit with intense aromas and flavours.

Our vines are hand-pruned and our grapes are hand-picked to ensure premium quality wines.

We strive to be as organic as possible and utilise cutting edge technology combined with good old-fashioned farming techniques to check our vineyard daily for the health of the vines.

Our Adelaide Hills vineyard is planted with premium Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Shiraz vines.

Our Winemaking Philosophy

We believe great wines are made by nature in the vineyard.

We use our skill and passion to capture the beautiful characters and flavours of the grapes in every bottle of our wine.

The grapes are harvested once they reach the desired balance of flavours and ripe tannins. The wine making process respects the natural quality and flavour of the fruit with minimal interference.

Our light style whites and rosè are produced using free run and light pressing techniques with strict temperature control, allowing the final wines to express their unique varietal flavours.

Our rich whites and reds are fermented on natural yeast to show off the terroir. Carbonate maceration, barrel fermentation and gentle lees stirring are utilised to enrich the flavour and texture of the wines. These wines are aged in carefully selected oak barrels before bottling and are a great example of cool climate wines.

Our Labels

The art series of Anderson Hill wine labels are story based. Each vintage, Clare Anderson chooses and illustrates her favourite stories. From Crazy Chook Lady (2016 Chardonnay) to Down She Goes (2016 Pinot Noir), each tells a tale about some aspect of the winery.

Some of Clare’s favourite wine labels include Maggie’s Nest (2015 Shiraz), Maggie’s Feast (2017 Shiraz), Vicki Norma (2015 Chardonnay) and Noisy Cocky (2013 Sauvignon Blanc).
